The decline in English proficiency among the Filipino youth poses a big challenge in the academe in terms of producing globally competitive graduates. As industries today seek employees who can think critically and communicate well, it is imperative to hone student's English communication skills to establish a more competent Filipino workface.

In this regard, the Department of Education (DepEd) and the National Youth Commission (NYC), together with the STI network of schools, present the Voice of the Youth - National Oratorical Competition beginning November 15, 2010 with this year's theme Change I Want to See Begins With Me: Becoming the New Filipino, this competition aims to develop critical thinking among young individuals and the confidence to express their thoughts in English through oration.

This annual national event will have its pilot run this year, to be participated by 4th year high school students from almost 600 public and private secondary schools across the country. This competition will be officially launched on the first week of October at the STI Academic Center, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The national competition is tentatively scheduled on February 2011.
